SECTION 1.

No. 1.

Sir,

Foreign Office to Board of Trade.

Foreign Office, December 22, 1905. WITH reference to the letter from this Department of the 26th October last, I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to transmit to you, to be laid before the Board of Trade, the accompanying copy of a despatch from His Majesty's Minister at Peking, forwarding further correspondence with the Chinese Government on the subject of the Trade-mark Regulations, now under discussion.

I am to state that Sir Edward Grey proposes to inform Sir E. Satow, in reply, that His Majesty's Government concur in the view expressed by the foreign Representatives that the suggested amendments in Articles 15, 20, and 21, by which foreign Powers would be deprived of their extra-territorial jurisdiction as far as trade-marks were concerned, are quite inadmissible.

Sir E. Grey proposes, if the Board of Trade concur, to add that His Majesty's Government are unable to make any concession to the Chinese Government in the matter of fees.

I am, &c.

(Signed)

F. A. CAMPBELL.
